About Micha
Having lived in Germany, Belize, Scotland, Canada and New Zealand, and after many years of travelling to more than 60 countries, I am now based on Sweden’s Höga Kusten (High Coast), where I enjoy a much quieter rural life with my partner Neil, our two cats Daisy and Benny and the great outdoors. Our gardens at home and at the summer house are full of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, and in the forests around me I can be seen foraging for cloudberries, lingonberries, wild strawberries and mushrooms. I love my frequent hikes and the solitude of the vast Swedish forests, as well as time in the kitchen, creating new dishes. I am also the author of the book Day-hiking on the Swedish High Coast: 50 great loop trails, which features many short and long hikes around this most beautiful part of Sweden.
Previously, I was a professor for tourism studies at universities in Germany, Scotland, Canada and New Zealand with a special research interest in the human connections with the natural environment, and especially wildlife tourism, sustainable tourism and ecotourism, and coastal and marine tourism.
Academically, I have published widely in the field of tourism, including several tourism related books and the seminal Encyclopedia of Tourism and Recreation in Marine Environments (CABI). I am delighted to remain affiliated with the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand, where I received the honorary title of a professor emeritus in 2024.
